Last Sunday one of my new roommates came back from Belgium with the repaired motor of our boat. After we installed and tested the motor on Monday I thought by myself to take a ride on the canals of Amsterdam. Yesterday, after work, I took the boat and shipped to the Anne Frank House to pick up my business partner and his girl friend. To act environmentally friendly I decide to cut of the power of the motor as long as I stopped to wait for my two guests. After they arrived I started the motor holding an electricity cable to the ignition plug. Just when I bend ahead I heard a ‘FLASH’. My first thought was F?!@K$%!!! .
To live in the Netherlands is one thing. To know the land, the culture, the people and the language is another question. For me as an immigrant I want to know as much as possible about the Netherlands. Therefore I make myself familiar with the Dutch facts step by step. In this article I will take a closer look on the different provinces of the Netherlands.
Two day ago I bought my so called museumkaart at Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder. In my last article about the museumkaart I wrote that the price for the card is 35,- EUR for adults and 17,50 EUR for children. Instead of paying 35,- EUR I had to pay 40,- EUR, because my old card wasn’t active any longer. Therefore I need a new one that has to be registered. But from next year on I’ll only have to pay 35,- EUR per year (as long as I recharge my card every year). So far, so good. But what have I done with my card until now?
Two years ago during my internship in Amsterdam I already bought a museum card, the so called museumkaart. The idea behind that card is simple as well as it is brilliant. Adults only have to pay 35,- euro per year, while children have to pay 17,50 euro per year. More than 400 museums all over the Netherlands participate in that system. The motto of the card is: Pay once, use unlimited (for a one year).
As a habitant of Amsterdam sure I really need a bike. It’s one of the most common transport vehicles in the Netherlands. Specially Amsterdam is a paradise for bikers. The city is full of bike lanes. Bikers may even ride in the wrong direction at one way lanes.
