Now that I start working, sure I need a mobile phone. And after nearly a decade of not having a cell phone I’m now planing not only to get a cell phone but also an organizer, a navigation system, a juke box and so on. I think its clear what I need. I need an iPhone. The following days I’ll get my dutch tax number. With that tax number I can start a dutch bank account. And after having my bank account I can sign a contract for a cell phone. Nevertheless I found two really interesting augmented reality apps for the iPhone.
Satellite Augmented Reality
The first app is called Satellite Augmented Reality. That is a navigation system that films the environment and layers the track to ride over the environmental film. It also detects street signs and integrate these signs directly into the screen. A demo of this app can be found on iPhone Augmented Reality Navigation.
Layar
The other app is called Layar. By filming the environment Layar shows the user houses and flats that are available to be bought or to be rent. Beside the feature that Layar marks the locations it also provides additional data such as distance, price, size and even the name of the contact person. A demo of Layar can be found on Layar, worlds first mobile Augmented Reality browser.
